Beard Bros Says Distillate Is Dead. We Agree.
The Headline We’ve Been Waiting For
Beard Bros Pharms published a piece called “The Death of Distillate” — a full industry breakdown of why cured resin is replacing distillate as the standard for quality vape cartridges in California.
They named Alive & Well as a leading example of what full-spectrum quality looks like at an accessible price.
Why This Matters
We’ve been making this argument since day one. Distillate strips out everything that makes cannabis interesting — the terpenes, the minor cannabinoids, the entourage effect. Then brands add botanical terpenes back in and call it a flavor.
It’s efficient manufacturing. It’s not good cannabis.
Beard Bros didn’t pull punches. Their thesis: consumers are educated now. They read labels. They know the difference between strain-specific resin and reconstructed distillate. And the market data is following the consumer.
What They Said About Us
From the piece: Alive & Well is cited as a leading example of cured resin quality at a price point that makes distillate’s only remaining advantage — being cheap — irrelevant.
That’s the thing. When we launched at $25 a gram, the pushback was that craft resin couldn’t compete on price. Two years later, we’re in 100+ dispensaries and the price argument is dead.
The Shift Is Real
This wasn’t a product review. It was an industry analysis. When an independent publication with Beard Bros’ track record writes the obituary for distillate, it signals something bigger than one brand’s success. The entire category is moving.
We’re just glad we were building in this direction before it was obvious.
