Alive & Well didn’t start in a boardroom or with a pitch deck. It started the way most good things in cannabis do, with people who actually smoke the plant getting tired of what was available on dispensary shelves.
Our founders came up through cannabis culture. Not the Instagram version. The real one: small farms, hand-trimmed flower, and a deep respect for the people who grow it. That connection to Humboldt County and the Emerald Triangle is what drew the team north and planted the roots for everything that followed.
Building From the Ground Up
When it came time to build Alive & Well, we did it without outside investment. No venture capital, no silent partners with exit strategies. Every dollar that went into our lab in Arcata came from reinvesting what we earned.
That meant growing slower than we could have. It also meant we never had to compromise on what goes into our carts.
Why Arcata
We set up in Arcata because that’s where the flower is. Humboldt County has been producing some of the best cannabis in the world for decades. By staying local, we maintain direct relationships with the farmers who grow our inputs, people we’ve known for years, not strangers on the other end of a supply chain.
Arcata also happens to be a perfect environment for what we do. The cool coastal climate means our lab runs at lower ambient temperatures year-round, ideal for cold extractions. While operators in the desert or inland valleys fight the heat just to keep their equipment in range, we’re running at temps that most labs can only dream of. The climate does half the work for us.
The Philosophy Is Simple
Make carts we actually want to smoke. If it doesn’t pass the nose test. If it doesn’t smell like the flower it came from, it doesn’t ship. Every batch is something our team hits before it goes out the door. That’s not a marketing line. That’s quality control.
What’s Next
We’re now in dozens of select dispensaries across California, shops that value connoisseurship and actually care about what goes on their shelves. We’re expanding our hardware line with a new All-in-One device, and we’re looking at new markets beyond California.
But the foundation doesn’t change. Humboldt flower, craft extraction, no distillate. That’s who we are.
